The Drafting Committee on Gender Equality in Anti-Doping (GECA) held its 6th meeting in Baku, Azerbaijan on 27-28 June 2023.

Anti-doping and gender equality experts discussed the findings of the two strands of GECA's work: the responses of nearly 50 National Anti-Doping Organisations (NADOs) and other stakeholders in the anti-doping world to a gender equality survey, and an analysis of anti-doping main standards from a gender perspective to identify potential biases or inequalities. Participants also agreed on the next steps to interview athletes, their representatives and anti-doping leaders about their perspectives on gender equality.

The results of these activities will inform the next steps of the Council of Europe work to enhance gender equality in anti-doping, with the drafting of a report and possible recommendations.

The meeting, chaired by Shafag Huseynli, was hosted by the Azerbaijan National Anti-Doping Agency (AMADA). GECA is composed of anti-doping experts from Azerbaijan, Finland, Ireland, Norway, Poland, Romania and Slovenia, as well as representatives of EU Athletes, the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). An eminent expert from the Mediterranean Institute of Gender Studies is assisting the committee in its work.
