Following a decision by the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe on 13 October 2021, the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), the Alice Milliat Foundation and Panathlon International have become the 27th, 28th and 29th members of the Consultative Committee (CC) of the Enlarged Partial Agreement on Sport (EPAS).
FIBA is the world governing body for basketball, whose mission is to develop and promote the game. It organises and oversees several international competitions, as well as establishing the Official Basketball Rules and the regulations that govern relations between the different members of the basketball community. The Alice Milliat Foundation is dedicated to improving media coverage of women’s sport in Europe, whether amateur or professional, by promoting the development of women’s sport practices. Panathlon International’s mission is to promote ethical, moral and educational values inspired by sportsmanship, fairness and fair play. It encourages the education of young people through sport, with special attention also being paid to vulnerable individuals, people with disabilities, older people and women.
As members of the Consultative Committee, the organisations will be invited to attend CC plenary meetings, webinars and other activities aimed at fostering dialogue between the members of sports organisations.
The Enlarged Partial Agreement on Sport is composed of three statutory bodies – the Governing Board, the Consultative Committee and the Statutory Committee – all of which strive to implement the programme of activities aimed at making sport more ethical, inclusive and safe. The Consultative Committee is composed of European sport organisations representing the sports movement.
