In order to widen the scope of the restorative justice legislation in line with international principles and standards and improve the stakeholders’ awareness of potential of restorative justice, project consultants conducted a needs assessment mission in Tbilisi on 18-21 April 2023. During the mission, in person and hybrid meetings were organised with representatives of the National Agency for Crime Prevention, Execution of Non-custodial Sentences and Probation, Public Defender’s Office, civil society organisations, academia, mediators and social workers, judges, prosecutors, lawyers of the Georgian Bar Association and Legal Aid Service and a mediation centre in Tbilisi was visited.
Following the completion of the needs assessment mission, an assessment report will be prepared by the consultants and shared with the stakeholders. The analysis and recommendations of the report are expected to contribute enlarging the scope of the use of restorative justice as a resolution mechanism by the National Agency for Crime Prevention, Execution of Non-custodial Sentences and Probation.
