Dual diagnosis and complex PTSD - Council of Europe continues training of specialists working in the justice system

The Council of Europe continues its cycle of trainings on the pressing issues of mental health for specialists (psychologists and representatives of the medical department) working in the criminal justice. On July 18-19, psychologists and psychotherapists of the Special Penitentiary Service and National Agency for Crime Prevention were trained on the issues of dual diagnosis and complex post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

The theoretical component of the training covered topics as follows: causes of complex PTSD, methods of diagnostic and ways of treatment, stress disorder, determination of dual diagnosis, necessity of diagnostic and treatment, trauma and its related issues. The training also included a practical component, where the specialists discussed the clinical cases and its conceptualisation.

This training was part of the Council of Europe project "Support for Penitentiary System Reforms in Georgia," under the Pompidou Group component. It is financed by the Council of Europe Action Plan for Georgia 2024-2027.
