Election officials from the Georgian election administration improved their knowledge of international and domestic standards for electoral dispute resolution

Election officials from the Georgian election administration improved their knowledge of international and domestic standards for electoral dispute resolution at the training, taking place on 20 September 2023 and conducted by Council of Europe experts. Training sessions included discussions on new approaches related to resolving of electoral complaints related to the use of information technology in elections. Emphasis was made on analysing the Georgian court practice.

Members of the Central Election Commission and District Election Commissions, staff of the Legal and Election Management Departments of the Central Election Commission, and trainers at the Center for Election Systems Development, Reforms and Training discussed practical aspects aimed at strengthening electoral jurisprudence and improving electoral environment in light of upcoming October 1 by/extraordinary elections and 2024 Parliamentary Elections.

The overall objective of the training was to improve quality of resolving electoral disputes by the Election Administration of Georgia, including to address effectively potential challenges related to the use of the information technology in elections. As already declared, during the 2024 Parliamentary elections up to 90% of Georgian voters will have to cast votes by using electronic voting machines.

The training was based on the toolkit methodology developed within the framework of the previous electoral assistance project in cooperation with the Venice Commission – Electoral dispute resolution: Toolkit for Strengthening Electoral Jurisprudence“ https://rm.coe.int/prems-018320-gbr-2507-electoral-dispute-resolution-web-txt-a4/16809f0042.

The training was organised within the framework of the Council of Europe Project “Supporting Transparency, Inclusiveness and Integrity of Electoral Practice and Process in Georgia”.
