The first phase of training sessions on mental health nursing has been organised in Georgia on 19-24 October 2018. The psychiatric nurses, already trained within the same project, are going to share the knowledge acquired in the training of trainers programme with their peers working in penitentiary establishments. The training programme has been developed and delivered by the Council of Europe project as a part of the Council of Europe assistance to the Ministry of Justice of Georgia aiming at strengthening the capacity of psychiatric nurses on the main principles of mental health nursing.
Mental health nurses play a central role as clinicians, case managers, clinical nurse specialists and nurse practitioners in mental health-care settings in many European countries. The development of the training programme for psychiatric nurses in Georgia aligns national practice to European standards resulting in increased role of the nurses as part of multidisciplinary teams that deal with mental illnesses.
This activity has been organised within the framework of the Project “Improving mental health care of persons detained in Georgia”, funded by voluntary contribution of Bulgaria, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Norway, the Slovak Republic, and Sweden, to support the implementation of the Council of Europe Action Plan for Georgia 2016-2019.
