International conference for Election Management Bodies was held in Georgia

International conference for Election Management Bodies “Information and Communication Tools (ICT) and ICT related Disinformation in Elections” took place in Georgia, Batumi on 25-26 October 2023. The conference was co-organised by the Georgian Election Administration in cooperation with the Council of Europe and the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES). 

Over 100 election officials from 25 countries, representatives of international organisations and diplomatic corps accredited in Georgia contributed to lively discussions and exchanged on emerging challenges of a digital era in elections.

During the different panels and working sessions, the conference addressed numerous topics, inter alia: Digital technologies and types of electronic solutions in elections, disinformation campaigns fuelled by ICT and their potential implication on electoral outcomes, empowering voter engagement by advancing voter education and communication on ICT and promoting awareness raising on newly suggested technologies.

This 11th edition of the conference proved to be an effective platform for peer-to-peer exchange among high level election officials from the Council of member States and beyond to face global challenges and propose effective instruments for their solution. It promotes an international dimension of electoral cooperation and aims at reinforcing ties among election management bodies worldwide.

The international conference was organised within the framework of the Council of Europe Project “Supporting Transparency, Inclusiveness and Integrity of Electoral Practice and Process in Georgia”.
