Twenty psychologists have now a better understanding of the nature of professional burnout and master the main strategies for its prevention. They were trained as trainers on prevention and management of professional burnout in the penitentiary system through two 2-day Training of Trainers (ToTs) organised by the Council of Europe on 9-12 March 2023.
24-hour shifts and working conditions inherent to prison environment put penitentiary staff at a high risk of professional burnout. In turn, this may result in difficulties in maintaining a basic level of security and a good quality service delivery for prisoners. The training programme included modules on identification of burnout factors, strategies for burnout prevention, the role of self-regulation skills and practices in the prevention of professional burnout. Following the training, the psychologists will ensure further transfer of the acquired skills to other staff of the penitentiary system.
This training was conducted under the auspices of the Council of Europe project “Enhancing Healthcare Provision in Georgia’s Penitentiary System”, which is a part of the Council of Europe Action Plan for Georgia 2020-2023.
