On 24-25 July 2024 the Council of Europe, together with the Coalition for Equality and in cooperation with the ‘’Rule of Law Center’’ organised a training session for Georgian civil society and community-based organisations aimed at strengthening equality and combat discrimination. The event got together representatives of 17 civil society organisations from Tbilisi, Mtsketa-Mtianeti, Kakheti and Marneuli. Beside the learning program, they shared on existing challenges and presented respective good practices.
The two-day training aimed to provide practical knowledge on discrimination and hate motivated violence against representatives of minority communities, in line with existing European standards. The program also looked into gender equality, including gender-based violence and sexual harassment in private and public spaces and in the workplace. Further, it touched upon forms of discrimination and violence against people with disabilities, and on improving communication with them, and with people with special needs. The last day of the training, a session helped the participants to better understand the right to freedom of peaceful assembly for minority groups.
The training was organized with the support of the Council of Europe’s project ”Enhancing Equality and Non-Discrimination in Georgia”, funded through the Council of Europe Action Plan for Georgia 2024-2027.
