The Council of Europe organised a comprehensive four-day training event for the representatives of the Anti-corruption Bureau of Georgia aimed at enhancing internal knowledge and skills in designing anti-corruption policy documents. This initiative is part of a series of events aimed at supporting the capacities of the Anti-corruption Bureau to perform its mandate related to corruption prevention and guide the anti-corruption policy development process in Georgia.
The Bureau was established in November 2022 based on an amendment to the Law of Georgia on Fighting Against Corruption. Among other responsibilities, the Bureau is tasked with developing proposals for the anti-corruption policy, as well as developing a national anti-corruption strategy and action plan. To this extent, the Project has organised a capacity building activity on “Developing and Implementing of the National Anti-corruption Strategy and Action Plan".
Participants benefited from presentations from the Council of Europe experts focusing on the general anti-corruption concepts, methods of preliminary diagnosis and situational analysis of the anti-corruption reform and framework, team organization requirements as well as inter-agency coordination aspects. Participants were also introduced to the local anti-corruption context and regulations for drafting, monitoring and evaluating anti-corruption policy documents. The event provided a good platform for detailed discussions on the methods for assessing anti-corruption needs and essential steps for collecting and analysing data received from competent institutions.
The training also included practical exercises on drafting, coordinating and monitoring the implementation of anti-corruption policy documents and advising on the role of the Anti-corruption Bureau in this process.
This event is part of the European Union and the Council of Europe joint programme “Partnership for Good Governance”, co-funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe, and implemented by the Council of Europe, in the framework of the project “Consolidating and Enhancing the Institutional and Operational Frameworks for the Prevention and Combatting of Corruption, Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing in Georgia”.
