The Council of Europe Project “Strengthening Protection of Social and Economic Rights in Georgia” organised a workshop on preparing national reports under the reporting procedure of the European Social Charter. The European Social Charter is the Council of Europe treaty that guarantees social and economic rights and the reporting procedure is an important tool for monitoring compliance with the Charter that is carried out by the European Committee of Social Rights.  

The event was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Labour, Health and Social Affairs and respective governmental entities.

The Council of Europe local consultant, made an overview of the European Social Charter and the reporting procedure under the Charter and presented the conclusions of the European Committee of Social Rights relating to Georgia.

In addition, the Council of Europe representative familiarized the participants of the workshop about data collection and analysis in the process of working on national reports.

As a group exercise, the participants discussed the draft report that shall be submitted to the European Committee of Social Rights by the end of this year and the ways of improving the information reflected in it.

During the discussions, participants stressed the need to organise such activities and the importance of practical implementation of the knowledge gained from the workshop. Finally, participants and organizers also discussed additional needs for capacity building activities and identified areas for future cooperation.

The event was organized by the Council of Europe Project “Strengthening Protection of Social and Economic Rights in Georgia. It is part of the Council of Europe Action Plan for Georgia 2020-2023.
