The final working group meeting on the National Strategy for the Execution of Judgments of the European Court of Human Rights (ECTHR) and its corresponding Action Plan took place on 22 November 2023 in Tbilisi.  

The main objective of meeting was to reach a consensus on the final draft of the National Strategy that will serve as an important framework for enhancing the process of execution of the ECtHR judgments in Georgia. The document focuses on several key areas:

1. Improving coordination in the execution process;
2. Resolving backlog of cases and ensure appropriate and timely communication with Department of Execution of Judgments (DEJ);
3. Enhancing domestic monitoring of the execution by the national parliament;
4. Providing adequate training to the national professionals.

The workshop convened a diverse group of interlocutors, including representatives from key institutions such as the Ministry of Justice, Supreme Court of Georgia, General Prosecutor's Office, Special Investigative Service, Parliament, Public Defender's Office and the Young Lawyers Association. The active participation of these stakeholders was instrumental in shaping the final draft of the Strategy. Also, representatives from the Execution Department of the Council of Europe played an integral role in the workshop, providing valuable insights and expertise.

The collaborative efforts of all participants culminated in the agreement and adoption of the final draft of the National Strategy and its corresponding Action Plan.

This workshop was organized within the framework of the Council of Europe Project "Enhancing Implementation of Human Rights Practices and Education in Georgia."
