On 28 November, 2016 Council of Europe (CoE) in cooperation with Public Defender’s Office of Georgia (PDO) organized a roundtable discussion on CoE Expert Opinion on the Draft Amendments to the Organic Law of Georgia on the Public Defender of Georgia. The aim of the meeting was to discuss further the clarifications and to apply practical recommendations for amending the law in line with the relevant international standards that frame the functioning of the National Human Rights Institutions. Face to face exchange between CoE secretariat together with the authors of the Opinion and PDO staff proved to be very successful.
As a result of the discussions, the PDO admitted the necessity of modifying current legislative proposal in order to improve the legal framework of Ombudsman’s operations.
