On 27 March 2014 the Council of Europe will organise a workshop on the Right to Respect for one's Private and Family Life through the Prism of Non-discrimination.

The workshop organised in partnership with the Free University and the Georgian Bar Association aims to ensure better understanding of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) with a focus on the right to respect for one's private and family life.

Up to 80 active lawyers and representatives of non-governmental organisations working on discrimination issues and law students will hear presentations by local and international consultants of the Council of Europe and will discuss the right to respect for one's private and family life through the prism of non-discrimination. The workshop will start with an introduction to the European Convention of Human Rights and a general overview of Article 14 and Protocol 12 which relate to the prohibition of discrimination. In addition, participants will have an opportunity to broaden their knowledge of the Georgian legislative framework on anti-discrimination and the case law of the European Court of Human Rights against Georgia on Articles 8 and 14.

The workshop will take place at the Conference hall of the Free University.

This event is organised in the framework of the European Union / Council of Europe Joint Programme "Strengthening the capacity of lawyers and human rights defenders for domestic application of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) and of the Revised European Social Charter (RESC) ".
