Presentation of the comparative study on the access to information laws and practices in Europe was held in Tbilisi

A presentation of the study on “the Tromsø Convention standards: overview of the access to information regulatory frameworks within the State-Parties to Tromsø Convention” was organised by the Council of Europe office in Georgia.

The Study showed how the requirements of the Tromsø Convention are reflected in the legal framework of the states which have either ratified or signed it and outlined the best practices of its implementation by other European countries. The Q&A session allowed the attendees to discuss access to information related challenges in Georgia, as well as in Europe. This presentation was part of the series of activities implemented in the field of access to information and was aimed at facilitating the informed decision-making process regarding the ratification of the Tromsø Convention by Georgia.

The discussion engaged the representatives of various Governmental and Non-Governmental institutions, namely, the Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Labour, Health and Social Affairs, Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure, Ministry of Internal Affairs, General Prosecutor’s Office, Government Administration, Personal Data Protection Service, Public Defender’s Office, as well as the Media Development Fund, Media and Communication Educational Research Centre and Rights Georgia.
