About the project
The Project is aimed at enhancing the Freedom of Expression and media standards in Georgia by facilitating:
- Implementation of media regulatory and self-regulatory frameworks in line with the European standards
- Harmonisation of the law and practice of safety of journalists with the Council of Europe standards
- Adherence to the CoE standards in the field of access to information.
Budget: EUR 780 000
Duration: 1 January 2024 - 31 December 2025

Through a combination of tailored capacity-building, policy/legal advice and facilitated decision-making.

Individual journalists, media outlets, civil society organisations and activists, media consumers.

- Communications Commission
- Public Defender’s Office
- Civil Society Organisations, including Media Advocacy Coalition, Georgian Charter of Journalistic Ethics and Georgian anti-SLAPP Coalition.
What do we expect to achieve?
- Media regulatory and self-regulatory authorities, as well as relevant Civil Society Organisations, exercise their respective mandates in line with the European standards
- Key decision-makers (Law Enforcement Agencies) take steps to harmonise the law and practice of safety of journalists with the Council of Europe standards
- Key stakeholders commit to respect the Tromsø Convention standards.
