Learning from Estonian experience on promoting the culture, tradition, and language of national minorities

On 24-25 April 2024, the Albanian Committee on National Minorities exchanged experiences with their Estonian counterparts in a study visit organised in Tallin with the support of the European Union and Council of Europe, in cooperation with the OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities.

The visit provided a platform for the Albanian delegation, comprising representatives from Serbian, Bosnian, Montenegrin, Bulgarian, Roma, Egyptian, Greek, Aromanian, and Macedonian communities, to gain insights from the Estonia's advanced frameworks and methodologies.

During the visit, Konstantina Beziani, Head of the Committee on National Minorities of Albania, emphasised the mutual benefits derived from such interactions, which would directly contribute to the further institutional development and better protection and integration of national minorities.

On the Estonian side, Ave Härsing, Head of Cultural Diversity Activities from the Integration Foundation, shared her enthusiasm about the engagement, highlighting the importance of shared learning in diversity management.

Key discussions focused on the design of inclusive policies and the exploration of subsequent initiatives aimed at promoting the culture, tradition, and language of national minorities.

The exchange visit was organised by the OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities office in cooperation with the joint European Union and Council of Europe action on Advancing the protection from discrimination in Albania, which is implemented within the framework of the joint programme of the European Union and the Council of Europe Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Türkiye.
