The Action against Economic Crime in Albania, in close cooperation with the Central Elections Commission (CEC), have recently organised four trainings on the use and functioning of the CEC’s online platform for monitoring political parties’ financing and misuse of state resources. This platform was developed with the support of the Action during Phase II of the European Union/Council of Europe "Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Turkey", with the purpose of strengthening CEC's oversight capacities and increasing transparency and accountability of political parties.

On 23-24 February, 120 appointed CEC's monitors and 20 financial officers of political parties in Albania attended the trainings and enhanced their technical knowledge on the use and functioning of the online platform. The Council of Europe’s experts tailored the sessions to the specific needs of key users of the platform. During the trainings, the participants had the opportunity to get acquainted with the online platform, its main modules and functions, and were provided with technical information in order to ensure effective functioning of the platform. The trainings served to enhance the knowledge of participants on their legal obligations and monitoring techniques regarding political parties’ financing and misuse of state resources during the electoral campaign for the local government election of 14 May 2023.

This activity was organised in the framework of the European Union and Council of Europe “Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Türkiye – Phase III: Action against Economic Crime in Albania”.
