Raising capacities of courts in Albania on judicial time management

The courts of general jurisdiction of Vlora and Fier are being assisted with the European Commission for the Efficiency of Justice (CEPEJ) tools on judicial time management and court performance indicators, in the framework of the European Union / Council of Europe joint action on Strengthening the quality and efficiency of justice in Albania (SEJ IV).

The series of trainings that is being organised with all courts of general jurisdiction in Albania, is particularly relevant in the frame of the reorganization of courts in line with the new judicial map and the establishment of the legal assistance units providing support accordingly with their roles and involvement in different stages of the judicial process, to ensure it takes place within a reasonable time.

The participants had the opportunity to engage in fruitful exchanges with their peers, the High Judicial Council representatives and the CEPEJ experts. They discussed how to combine CEPEJ tools on time management with best European practices in judicial management and domestic piloted practices in the field of execution orders. Important recommendations and relevant measures were proposed to be further considered by the High Judicial Council and the Court Council.

This initiative follows the regional activities with court councils organised under the previous phase of the action SEJ III, in co-operation with the High Judicial Council and the respective court councils, trained on CEPEJ tools aimed at increasing court efficiency.

The activity was organised in the framework of the action Strengthening the quality and efficiency of justice in Albania under the joint European Union and Council of Europe programme Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Türkiye.
