Budapest - On 25 and 26 March 2025, a delegation of the Venice Commission conducted a visit to Budapest, Hungary, in the framework of the preparation of the Opinion on Act LXXIX of 2024 amending certain laws relating to elections. This Opinion was requested by the Chairperson of the Monitoring Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe on 30 January 2025. The Venice Commission delegation met with representatives of the National Election Office, the Ministry of Justice, the Committee of Justice of the Parliament, Members of the Parliament of both the ruling and opposition parties, as well as with representatives of several non-governmental organisations, and of academia.

The draft Opinion will be submitted for adoption to the 143rd Plenary Session of the Venice Commission (13-14 June 2025).
