7 November 2023 - 16.45-19.00 / Screening room Palais de l'Europe
Interpretation FR/EN
The number of countries that have abolished the death penalty in law or in practice is constantly growing, but executions have unfortunately increased recently throughout the world.
This inhuman and degrading punishment is still upheld and used in various countries. Some states use it as a tool of terror or as a means of political repression. The film “Seven winters in Teheran” shows the fight of the family and supporters of Reyhaneh Jabbari, who was 19 in 2007 when she was sentenced to death in Iran for the murder of a man who tried to rape her. Reyhaneh’s mother, Shole, will speak about the film and the situation in Iran together with the Director of the film, Steffi Niederzoll. Global trends regarding the abolition of the death penalty and its impact on society will be debated with the Director of the World Coalition against the Death Penalty.
