Learning about the conflicts is often the first step towards their resolution and prevention.

However, in the age of social media, our attention spans are decreasing, thus requiring innovative ways of keeping us engaged with the important subjects. If we want education for peace and democracy to be successful, it has to become more comprehensive, inclusive and interactive. Which approaches to raising awareness about difficult subjects in our societies work the best? Can we effectively use games to teach serious subjects? Can games and comprehensive programmes help us rekindle our passion for peace and democracy?

KARSAKOV

Arseniy KARSAKOV

Youth delegate

Russian Federation

My name is Arseniy and I am from Russia. After Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, my main goal is to promote the ideas of peace and democracy in my country despite the authoritarian regime. During the forum, I want to share my experience of the functioning of civil society and the democratic movement in a police state and highlight the fight of those Russians who want to end the war and democratize the political system. I believe that participation in WFD provides a wonderful platform for interstate dialogue that is necessary for every society of every country to succeed since it promotes tolerance and understanding

TALAVERA

Miranda TALAVERA BÉJAR

Youth delegate

Mexico

'Lo personal es político' (what is personal is political) embodies my favorite Latin American feminist concept. It emphasizes the need for systemic change and the fact that only unity can turn a dream of change into reality. Attending a United World College and living in three different countries has shown me vastly different things about what democracy means and the role of civil engagement. A recurring theme is the neglect of young people in peace-building and democratic processes. While some claim we dream too much, I believe in the power of dreams to drive change. As a freshman at Middlebury College, I want to be an amplifier for the generations before me and the generations to come that scream fighting to survive, fighting for peace, and for a fair, democratic future.
