Chiara leads Google's policy work on AI, cloud and emerging technologies in Brussels. She was previously a consultant on public affairs and communications at Brunswick Group. In her six years in Brussels, she worked on a broad range of issues - from EU tech policy to agriculture.

Frederik Zuiderveen Borgesius is a researcher (Marie Curie fellow) at the LSTS Research Group on Law, Science, Technology & Society, at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. He is also a fellow of the Institute for Information law (IViR) at the University of Amsterdam. He has published extensively on privacy, freedom of expression, and discrimination. He regularly presents his work to academics, policymakers, and other stakeholders around the world. An important theme of his research is protecting fairness and fundamental rights in the context of new technologies. At the request of the European Parliament, he wrote a report in 2017 on the legal protection of privacy on the internet. In 2017 he received an EU Marie Curie grant, to conduct research into the risk of discrimination in the context of machine learning and artificial intelligence. In 2018, he wrote a report for the Anti-discrimination department of the Council of Europe, about ‘Discrimination, artificial intelligence, and algorithmic decision-making’.

Francine Raveney is currently Head of PR for the European Women’s Audiovisual Network (www.ewawomen.com), which she founded and formerly directed (2013-2016). In this role she oversaw research, training and networking in the audiovisual sector and contributed to the changing face of gender equality in the film industry in particular. She currently works part-time at the Eurimages film fund where she specializes in gender equality and co-productions and where she oversaw the adoption of the first ever pan-European recommendation on gender equality in the audiovisual sector. She also regularly teaches on Master of Studies courses, and works as a consultant at film festivals as well as carrying out some translation work. Raveney studied French and English Literature, followed by Women’s Studies, at Queen’s College, Oxford University, and subsequently received the Entente Cordiale scholarship to study politics and literature at Strasbourg University.

Anca Damian is the Romanian director, screenwriter, and producer of the following films:

“The Fantastic Voyage of Marona” (to be released in 2019 - France-Romania-Belgium);

“Moon Hotel Kabul” (2018 Romania –France) to be premiered in WIFF;

“The Magic Mountain” (2015 Romania - France – Poland) premiered and awarded at Annecy and Karlovy Vary IFF. This film was selected in over 80 festivals and won 10 prizes, including the Eurimages’ Audentia Award 2016;

“A Very Unsettled Summer” (2013 Romania, Czech Republic, Sweden, UK);

– The Path to Beyond" (2011- Romania-Poland) which premiered in Locarno and which was selected in 260 film festivals. The film received the Cristal Award in Annecy, among the 35 prizes received.

Anca Damian spends much of her time working out of France.

Anna Serner has been the the CEO of the Swedish Film Institute (SFI) since 2011. She has an LLM and has studied film both practically and scientificially. During Anna’s time at the Swedish Film Institute, the Organisation has gone from having semi-private funding to being entirely public funded. The SFI has also subsequently overhauled its funding schemes. Over the past seven years her work on gender equality, and that of the Organisation’s, has been focused and succesful. Since 2011, it can be noted that Swedish films have improved remarkably in terms of quality with many international successes for films supported by the SFI. Awards received include the Palme d’Or and the Grand Prix in Cannes Film Festival, the Lux Prize and two nominations to The Academy Awards, amongst others.

Marianne Slot is a French producer of Danish origin. For over 25 years she has produced the works of many international film directors including Lucrecia Martel, Bent Hamer, Malgoska Szumowska, Paz Encina, Lisandro Alonso, Albertina Carri, Emma Dante, Marian Crisan, Juliette Garcias, Yeşim Ustaoğlu, Sergei Loznitsa, Benedikt Erlingsson and Naomi Kawase. She has co-produced all of Lars von Trier’s films (from 1995 with “Breaking the Waves” to 2018 with “The House That Jack Built”). President of Cinema du Monde at the Centre National du Cinéma et de l'Image Animée (CNC) - World Cinema support) 2013-2015. She received the French Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres title in Cannes May 2015.

Despina Syrri is the Director of the Council of Europe Civic School of Political Studies in Greece and President of Symβiosis. She has been Visiting Fellow at the Amsterdam Centre for Holocaust and Genocide Studies, Director of Research and International Cooperation at the Immigration Policy Institute in Greece, and has cooperated with  Reuters, Athens News Agency, OSCE/ODIHR, the Berlin Migration Network, the British Council, the Refugee Studies Centre Oxford and the EastWest Institute on issues such as post-conflict development, elections, human rights, migration, refugees, borders and the Western Balkans integration to the European Union. She taught Political Science and Political Anthropology at the American College of Thessaloniki, worked with IOs and NGOs in Southern Africa, East Europe and South East Europe, published journal articles and book chapters in Greek, South Slavic and English, authored research papers, citizens' media and documentaries. She cooperated with the University of Macedonia in developing post-graduate degrees at EU level on Humanitarian Action; undertook research on irregular migration with ELIAMEP and the EU Fundamental Rights Agency, and is a member of the Thessaloniki Municipality Migrants’ Integration Council.

Chadia Arab is a geographer and researcher at the CNRS UMR ESO (National centre for scientific research). Her works focus on international migration and specifically on Moroccans in France, Spain and Italy, as well as in the Gulf countries. She is also interested in gender in migration. She teaches at the University of Angers. Her latest book is entitled « Dames de fraises, doigts de fée. La migration saisonnière des Marocaines en Espagne », published in 2018 by En Toutes Lettres.

Denis Bribosia was born in Huy (Belgium) in 1965. He started his career at the Brussels Bar Association, before taking part in a number of missions to protect human rights in Asia and Europe. He joined the Council of Europe in 2000, where he has held various positions, including Secretary of the ad hoc Committee on the legal aspects of territorial asylum and refugees (CAHAR) and Special Representative of the Secretary General in Azerbaijan. Since 2008, he has been working in the Secretariat of the Committee of Ministers.

Petra De Sutter is a Belgian gynaecologist and professor in Reproductive Medicine. She is a member of the Flemish Green Party and an appointed Senator and member of the Council of Europe’s Parliamentary Assembly (PACE). At PACE, she is the Chair of PACE’s Rules-committee and a member of the Committee on Migration, Refugees and Displaced Persons and the Committee on Social Affairs, Health and Sustainable Development. She also chaired the political group’s women working group between 2015 and 2018. Since 2015, Petra has been the vice-chair of the European Parliamentary Forum on Population and Development. She is one of the three candidates to become Spitzenkandidat for the European Greens at the coming European elections.

Dr. Vanessa Liston is co-founder and CEO of CiviQ, a company delivering innovations in public participation and deliberation. CiviQ’s mission is the creation of an open data source on public opinion and changes in social perspectives to help respond to complex social and environmental challenges. Vanessa holds a PhD in Political Science from Trinity College Dublin, Ireland, where she was a Government of Ireland Scholar. She publishes regularly in international journals on development issues, deliberative democracy, Web 2.0 technologies, and political system innovation. Vanessa also has a background in international development and a management consulting career in Accenture and Cambridge Technology Partners.  In 2014 she was listed by TechnologyVoice as one of Ireland’s Talented 38 Technology Women.

Alan Bowman is Deputy Head of Mission of the Mission of Canada to the European Union. He also concurrently serves as the Permanent Observer of Canada to the Council of Europe. He joined the Government of Canada’s Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (now the Department of Global Affairs) in 1996.   His headquarters assignments included: director of the foreign policy research division; director of the regional strategy division; director of the Asia-Pacific policy division; and deputy director of the international economic relations and summits division.    In Ottawa, he also had an assignment in the Privy Council Office’s foreign policy and defense secretariat.   In addition, he served a two-year term as Chairman of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Committee on Trade and Investment in 2004 and 2005.  Postings abroad also included the Embassy of Canada to Thailand and the Permanent Mission of Canada to the United Nations in New York City. He holds degrees in economics from McGill University, l’Université de Montréal and l’Institut d’études politiques de Paris (Sciences Po).

Evrydiki is a Greek national. She joined the Council of Europe in July 2017. Before having joined the organisation, she worked for the European institutions (European Parliament, Representation of the European Commission to Greece), for the Hellenic Parliament, for the political foundation K. Karamanlis Institute for Democracy as well as for the Institute of European Integration and Policy of the University of Athens. She also participated in two projects on gender equality issues, as partner of the Greek League for Women’s Rights and she is co-author of two publications on how to combat gender stereotypes in mass media and on work-life balance. She holds a BA in Political Science and Public Administration from the University of Athens and an MA on European Studies from the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB).

Claire Provost (moderator) is an investigative journalist. She is editor of 50.50, the gender and sexuality section of the global independent media platform openDemocracy.net, which is tracking the backlash against women's and LGBT rights with an ongoing investigative series. Previously Claire worked at The Guardian and the Centre for Investigative Journalism in London. She has degrees from Harvard and Columbia and lives in Turin, Italy.

Lidia Kurasińska is a freelance journalist covering eastern Europe and the Balkans. She has written for publications including openDemocracy, Middle East Eye, Kosovo 2.0 and the Guardian.

Claudia Torrisi is an Italian freelance journalist focused on social issues such as migration and civil rights. She writes for openDemocracy 50.50 and other outlets including VICE Italy and the independent Italian website Valigia Blu. Her reporting for 50.50 has included recent articles on women’s participation in far right movements, ongoing limits to women’s access to abortion, and the situation of LGBT refugees.

Hajnalka Juhász is the Vice-President of the Foreign Affairs Committee and the member of the Hungarian National Assembly. She is also member of the Hungarian delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) as a politician from the Christian Democratic Peoples Party. She holds a juris doctor degree from the Károli Gáspár University of the Reformed Church and an LLM in Public International Law from the University of Leicester. She has held different positions within the Hungarian Ministry of Justice and has served as a seconded national expert at the Council of Europe Secretariat of the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages. She is currently also carrying out a PhD research regarding the protecting of the rights of national minorities in the practice of the CoE. She has formerly been the regional vice-president of the Young Christian Democratic Alliance in Hungary as the first women vice-president in the Alliance. Ms Juhász has also been closely involved with the Hungary Helps initiative, as a humanitarian aid programme focusing on persecuted Christians in the Middle East.

Suri Kempe is the Programme Manager at Musawah, a global movement for equality and justice in the Muslim family that works to advance the rights of women living in Muslim contexts. Prior to that, Suri held the portfolio for Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment for the United Nations Development Programme in Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei. She developed and implemented gender thematic programmes and integrated a gender perspective into the design and implementation of UNDP’s initiatives. Her other work experience include managing Communications for Sisters in Islam; Special Officer to the Minister of Women; and UNDP Project Manager to increase the participation of PWDs in the workforce in Johor (2008-2010).

Caterina Amanda Luise is a Brazilian and Italian national. She is a Global Gender Studies graduate from Aalborg university in Denmark and has been working at the CEB Secretariat in Strasbourg since September 2017.
