The Council of Europe Youth sector is deeply saddened by the loss of seven lives in attack on Lviv on 4 September 2024, as a result of the Russian war of aggression. Among the victims, we are mourning the 21 years old youth activist Yaryna Bazlevych, who was killed alongside her two sisters and mother. Yaryna was a partner in Council of Europe activities and a courageous voice for young people in her country. She was part of the Lviv European Youth Capital initiative which we have been proudly supporting through our partnership.

“I would like to express our sincere condolences to all those who were close to Yaryna. The Council of Europe fully supports Ukraine in the fight against Russia’s aggression. These days, it is more important than ever to stand in solidarity with Ukrainian youth who are fighting for freedom of young people across Europe and their right to a democratic future”, said Tobias Flessenkemper, Head of the Youth Department.
