Model European Parliament at the European Youth Centre

On Wednesday 26 February 2025, 130 participants from the Model European Parliament gathered at the European Youth Centre Strasbourg to take part in the 61st iMEP session taking place in Kehl and Strasbourg.

The young delegates, from 25 countries are meeting during the 80th anniversary of the end of WWII, to honour and celebrate the strength of European integration, and the significant role that the European Union and its institutions, such as the European Parliament, have played in promoting core values of dialogue, cooperation, mutual understanding and peace.

The Model European Parliament is an international simulation of the working of the European Parliament for students aged 16–19. The programme aims to give young people an insight into the workings of the European Parliament and raise their awareness of European citizenship.

After welcoming the participants and wishing the organisers and attendees a productive and fruitful session, the team at the European Youth Centre Strasbourg provided a short introduction to the Council of Europe and its role in promoting democracy, human rights and the rule of law and outlined the work of the Council of Europe’s Youth Department to promote access strengthening young people’s access to rights, democratic engagement and participation.
