Back Positive Storytellers

Youth Social Rights Network with the support of the I-PARTICIPATE NGO (Greece)

 Aim

The study session aims to empower participants to create positive stories, narratives and communication that makes young refugees and migrants feel valued, accepted, and a sense of belonging in their new homes; and that makes the communities refugees have moved to welcoming, inclusive places, where people value diversity and the contribution that refugees and migrants make to their society.

 Objectives

The objectives of the study session are:

  • To enable participants to connect, learn, share their experience and knowledge with each other and to be inspired to take action.
  • For participants to share and strengthen their knowledge, awareness and understanding of the key narratives and stories about migrants in their contexts.
  • To strengthen participants’ knowledge and understanding of the key human and social rights issues impacting refugees and migrants and host communities.
  • To strengthen participants’ knowledge, skills, competencies and confidence to work with young people to develop effective rights-based stories and communication campaigns that positively change the narrative about refugees and migrants.
  • For participants to develop an understanding of the role of Council of Europe’s work in supporting refugees and migrants, especially around Recommendation of the Committee of Ministers ‘CM/Rec(2019)4 Supporting Young Refugees in Transition to Adulthood’ and the practical guide ‘Turning 18 with Confidence’
  • For participants to develop realistic, realisable and impactful story telling projects, initiative or actions that positively change the narrative towards refugees and migrants in their context.
