In the framework of the preparations of the Maltese Presidency to the Council of Europe, which will take place in May – November 2025, the Parliamentary Secretary of Reforms and Equality, Hon. Rebecca Buttigieg, accompanied by the Ambassador Francesca Camilleri Vettiger, paid a visit to the European Youth Centre Strasbourg where she was introduced to the work of the Council of Europe youth sector.

The Parliamentary Secretary indicated that Malta attaches utmost importance to youth policy, and in particular to topical issues at the European level such as  young people’s right to health and well-being, as well as young people’s participation in public life. Moreover, the meeting provided the opportunity to underline the valuable contribution that Malta has made to the development of the Council of Europe youth policy, including the adoption of key documents such as the Council of Europe Youth Sector Strategy 2030. The important role that the Maltese Presidency will play in the implementation of the decisions taken during the 4th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Council of Europe in Reykjavik concerning youth, and notably the integration of a youth perspective within the Council of Europe, was also emphasised.
