Back EYCB-EcoFilmClub: Soyalismd

online event

We would like to kindly invite you to the first online pilot filmclub programme of the EYCB.

The screening will be again on a Friday evening, 27 November 2020 as from 18:00 with the Italian documentary titled Soyalism, presented in Hungary last year at the Verzió International Human Rights Documentary film Festival.

Food production has increasingly become a huge business for a handful of giant corporations. Soyalism follows the industrial production chain of pork and the related soybean monoculture, from China to Brazil through the United States and Mozambique. The documentary describes the enormous concentration of power in the hands of these Western and Chinese companies. Meanwhile hundreds of thousands of small producers have gone out of business, and entire landscapes have been permanently transformed. The system has been exported across the world. From waste-lagoons in North Carolina to soybean monoculture in the Amazon rainforest, the movie asks whether this process is jeopardizing the environmental balance of the planet.

The film is in English with Hungarian subtitles. The present technical platform cannot provide simultaneous interpretation unfortunately, so the usual roundtable talk will be only in Hungarian language.

The screening is free, but please make sure you register beforehand here.

Once registrated, you will be contacted for further information on the technical details and you will get a link to join the screening before the event. In order to make sure that all participants receive the information in time, we will close the registration at midday (12.00) on Thursday, 26 November. You will only need a good quality internet connection and an internet browser in order to participate.
