Atrás Council of Europe anti-torture Committee publishes report on Poland

The Council of Europe’s Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (CPT) publishes today the report on its most recent visit to Poland from 11 to 22 May 2017, together with the response of the Polish authorities.

During the visit, the CPT’s delegation assessed progress made since previous visits and the extent to which the Committee’s recommendations had been implemented. Particular attention was paid to the treatment of persons in police custody, foreign nationals detained in Border Guard establishments, remand and sentenced prisoners, juvenile offenders and civil and forensic psychiatric patients.

The main conclusions of the CPT are set out in the executive summary of the report.

In their response, the Polish authorities provide information on the measures taken to implement the recommendations made in the CPT’s report.

The CPT report and the response of the Polish authorities have been made public at the request of the Polish Government.
