- Descripción
- The mercury mine was active in Abbadia San Salvatore from 1899 to the mid-70s of the 20th century, and was one of the major resources of this mineral in the world. The Museum offers three routes: the multimedia route “Mercury’s places” leading into the former workshop building (“Ex Officina Meccanica”) and highlighting the mining culture of Mount Amiata; the didactic underground route “Tunnel level VII” presenting a typical mining tunnel, where representative workplaces of six mining phases and the coalfaces with cinnabar are reproduced using old machines and tools; the historical “Clock Tower” housing the museum about the mining park.
The Museum is managed by the “Terre di Toscana” Consortium.
The Abbadia San Salvatore Mining Museum is an Individual Site of the European Route of Industrial Heritage.
