Celebrating the 18th Data Protection Day

To celebrate the 18th International Data Protection Day, the Data Protection Unit together with the organisers of the Computers, Privacy and Data Protection International Conference (CPDP) and the European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS) co-organised a one-day event with high-level speakers from the data protection community. The event took place on 25 January 2024 in Brussels, Belgium with several panel discussions on the rights to privacy and data protection, children’s privacy in virtual playgrounds, interoperability between data flow regimes, the future of digital governance and international regulation of AI.

On behalf of the Council of Europe, the event was opened by Mr Patrick Penninckx, Head of the Digital Development and Governance Department who also moderated a panel on “Convention 108+”. The latter discussed the changes the potential entry into force of the amending Protocol CETS No. 223 might bring and the opportunities and challenges ahead.
