Data Protection starts 2020 on a positive note! The Council of Europe is pleased to announce the third ratification of the Protocol amending Convention 108, which provides Convention 108+. Today, 23 January 2020, the ratification instrument was deposited by Ambassador Laima JUREVIČIENĖ, Permanent Representative of Lithuania to the Council of Europe, in presence of the Deputy Secretary General Ms Gabriela Battaini-Dragoni.

The entry into force of Convention 108+ is crucial in the digital age and we therefore hope that many other ratifications will take place this year to enable the rapid entry into force of this modernised landmark instrument.

Since the opening for signatures, a total of 38 signatures have been registered.
