A conference to discuss the case law of the European Court of Human Rights on media freedom and freedom of expression is bringing together in Strasbourg today judges and lawyers of the European Court of Human Rights, media lawyers, academics, policymakers, journalists, media professionals and civil society representatives.
Organised by the European Centre for Press and Media Freedom with the support of the Council of Europe, the conference “Promoting dialogue between the European Court of Human Rights and the media freedom community” will tackle issues such as defamation, privacy and personal data, investigative journalism, access to information, protection of sources, and the right to protest and the role of media during demonstrations.
The vice-President of the Court, Judge András Sajó, and Silvia Grundmann, head of the Council of Europe´s media freedom and Information Society Division, will deliver keynote speeches.
Speakers at the conference also include the legal advisor at the European Centre for Press and Media Freedom, Flutura Kusari, Strasbourg Court´s judge Robert Spano, the jurisconsult of the Court, Lawrence Early, the Director of Editorial Legal Services of The Guardian, Gill Phillips, the Executive Director of Access Info Europe, Helen Darbishire, and the whistleblower of the “Luxleaks scandal”, Antoine Deltour.
