Convention on Data Protection turns 40: Committee of Ministers’ declaration

The Convention for the Protection of Individuals with regard to Automatic Processing of Personal Data (“Convention 108”), which celebrates its 40th anniversary this year, can become the international standard of reference on privacy and data protection in the digital age, declared the Committee of Ministers.

The Committee also recalled the importance of the amending Protocol (2018) to secure a shared legal space fit for the digital age, in order to preserve the relevance of this landmark instrument for the decades to come. It calls upon all States Parties to the Convention that have not yet done so to ratify the amending Protocol.
