What are the risks of discrimination created by the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)? What access to data across borders do law enforcement need in order to fight cybercrime? How can privacy be protected in digital platforms? How do we rise to the challenge of tackling illegal content online and safeguarding digital rights at the same time? These are among the important questions that the Council of Europe will address during the Internet Governance Forum (IGF), organised by the UN in Berlin from 25 to 29 November.
The Internet Governance Forum brings together representatives of governments, international organisations, business, civil society, academia and the IT sector to discuss public policy issues concerning the internet, including the need to address the risks to human rights that advanced technologies, such as AI, may create.
A delegation from the Council of Europe will be there to contribute to the general debates and to organise several events dealing with various issues on which the organisation is currently working, including those on which it has developed binding international legal standards, such as cybercrime and data protection, and others where it is exploring the possibility of creating them, such as AI.
