A new project aimed at improving the inclusion of Roma in the local decision-making processes will be launched in Kosice, Slovakia on Tuesday 5 November. The ROMACT project will run for one year in Slovakia, Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania and Italy, and will focus on building the capacity and political will of local and regional authorities to develop and implement strategies and policies for Roma inclusion. ROMACT is a joint initiative of the Council of Europe and the European Commission, implemented in the framework of the European Alliance of Cities and Regions for Roma Inclusion.
The launch event will take place at the Doubletree Hotel ( Halavná 123, Kosice) and will be open to the media. Speakers include Koos Richelle, Director General, Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion, European Commission, Jozef Burian, State Secretary, Slovakian Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs and the Family, Peter Pollák, Plenipotentiary of the Slovak Government for Roma Communities, Andreas Kiefer, Secretary General of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities, Council of Europe and Kálmán Mizsei, Chair of the Board, MtM, Open Society Foundations.
Project activities will include training, coaching and mentoring for putting commitments into practice.
On the occasion of the ROMACT launch, the Slovakian authorities will also present the three year action plan for the implementation of the Dosta! campaign.
