Thorbjørn Jagland today met the Italian Minister of Justice, Andrea Orlando. The exchange of views focused on ongoing prison reform in Italy to tackle overcrowding in detention centres.
Minister Orlando has presented a plan to the Secretary General highlighting the progress already made and underlining the measures to reduce prison overcrowding in the coming months. During the official visit, the Minister held talks with the President of the European Court of Human Rights, Dean Spielmann and the Commissioner for Human Rights Nils Muižnieks.
