On Wednesday Secretary General Thorbjørn Jagland made the following statement:
“Our member state Turkey has suffered another horrific terrorist attack.
Once again so many innocent people have been killed and hurt on European soil.
All Council of Europe member states must stand together in the fight against terrorism and in defence of our common values.
I extend my sincere condolences to the citizens of Istanbul, the Turkish people and the Turkish government. Our thoughts today are particularly with the victims of terrorism. We stand by Turkey in these troubling times.“
