What do we mean by intercultural competences in public administration? What are the needs at local level? The Guide on Intercultural Competences is now online! It defines a common conceptual framework and translates it into practice in the design, implementation and evaluation of policies with an intercultural focus.
The Guide has been prepared by the Spanish Network of Intercultural Cities (RECI) with special contributions by the cities of Barcelona, Bilbao, Castelló de la Plana, Donostia-San Sebastian, and Tenerife Island.
The aim is to answer a need expressed by the ICC members through the ICC survey on 2020 priorities. The survey showed that the majority of respondents considers that guidance and training on intercultural competences are of great importance, and that they would be beneficial to both technical and elected officials.
The cities participating in the drafting of the Guide have also carried out a pilot training course in intercultural competences as a way to test the principles advanced by the document, and get useful insights on the next steps to continue advancing in the building of an intercultural public administration.
This strand of work is complemented by the project "Intercultural competences applied to the development of projects in public administration", also financed by the ICC programme through the grant attributed to 5 Spanish cities within the call for inter-city pilot projects.
