Atzealdea Living Charter for Intercultural Modena

Living Charter for Intercultural Modena

The Living Charter for Intercultural Modena has been presented to the Mayor and the City Council on 14 March 2023. It was developed through a participatory process which started in July 2022 and included more than 20 associations. It is a reference tool for the implementation of the three principles of “Intercultural Modena”:

  • A desire to move forward toward true equal rights, duties and opportunities for all people living in Modena, based on a common commitment to strengthening the principles of non-discrimination and equal opportunity.
  • Recognition of and respect for cultural diversity as a structural element of society that must be valued.
  • The goal of facilitating positive interactions, creating ties, fostering participation and sparking intercultural dialogue on equal terms between the city’s different constituents.

It also aims to be a guide for the development of both public and private intercultural policies and services and a tool for their assessment and continuous improvement. The charter is an open tool that can be modified through moments of organised dialogue, with new associations or other figures, within or outside municipal administration, joining the working group.
