Purpose: The website “Study in Lisbon” is directed specifically at foreign students, encouraging them to pursue their studies in Lisbon (“10 reasons to study in Lisbon”) as well as providing information for those preparing their stay (e.g. information on accommodation and scholarships) or for those already living in Lisbon (e.g. information on social events).
Stimulus/Rationale: Around 140 thousand students study in Lisbon per year, on average, and 15 thousand of them are foreign students that choose Lisbon as their destination. Some of Lisbon’s universities also take part in exchange programmes, such as “Erasmus” or the “Fulbright Program”.
Process: “Study in Lisbon” website provides relevant information for foreign students, through videos and a welcoming guide. A facebook page also exists with links to events and activities taking place in Lisboa.
Every year a welcoming week is hosted to receive new students coming from abroad, with several initiatives. A mentor from one of the partners organisations “Erasmus Lisboa”, welcomes new students right from the airport, helps opening bank accounts, create a transport card and access all the needed services.
Partnering with several other organisations, like the Foreign and border Services, a foreign students Lounge offers services for these students, including venus for studying and group work, networking with other Lisbion students and other services: Visa & Immigration Services; Passport; Bank Account Opening; finding accommodation options; information about transportation services and Language Schools; Phone SIM cards; information about Healthcare, Scholarships and Insurance; Jobs & Internships search, Leisure, sports and cultural activities, Academic Entrepreneurship Program for International Students; Contact with embassies and consulates
Impact: Given the success of this website, a new feature was also developed for foreign researchers that wish to do their research in Lisbon.
