An active network of intercultural cities in Portugal

The Portuguese Network of Intercultural Cities (RPCI) just held its first coordination meeting to prepare their workplan for 2021 building on the achievements of the past year.

In fact, 2020 has been a very productive year for the Portuguese Network.

A Guide for welcoming migrants (available in English and in Portuguese) has been developed as a complement to the web APP “Portugal Incoming” already launched in 2019 (available in Portuguese and English) and in line with the priorities agreed by the group of member cities. These tools are a major practical contribution to the integration of migrants in Portugal, since they bring to newcomers all relevant insights on how to navigate through Portuguese services and bureaucracy, as well as access to information about cultural and social events. A guide for practitioners (PT and ENG), on how to conduct welcoming sessions was also developed, as well as a matrix for the creation of municipal integration plans and strategies (PT).

This year, RPCI will consolidate work initiated on intercultural communication and awareness raising on diversity as an advantage for the whole society. The newly created website, Instagram and linked in accounts will be used to promote the intercultural values that underpin RPCI work. The Network will also engage Portuguese youth in the development of an Anti-Rumours strategy and campaigns.

The report of the 1st Coordination meeting of the RPCI in 2021 is available online.
