“I am deeply saddened by the sudden passing on 17 February 2024 of Congress member Mr Cătălin Toma, President of the Vrancea County Council of Romania”, said Congress President, Marc Cools, today.

“ Mr Toma joined the Congress in March 2021, as a member of its Chamber of Regions. He was the Head of the Romanian national delegation to the Congress and was elected first vice-chairperson of the Governance Committee in October 2023.

“He will be remembered by his colleagues in the Congress for his kindness and dedication to our work and to the values of the Council of Europe, which quickly won him the respect of his peers.

“On behalf of the Congress, I wish to extend my deepest condolences to Mr Toma’s family and to all those who were close to him,” said the President.
