Pompidou Group of the Council of Europe supports the Development of the Drug Prevention National Action Plan (NAP) for 2024-2026 in Georgia

The Pompidou Group of the Council of Europe within the framework of its project ’’Developing a Drug Prevention Support Network for Parents and Professionals in Georgia” organised a Workshop dedicated to the development of the Drug Prevention National Action Plan for 2024-2026 on 27-28 November 2023 in Borjomi, Georgia.

The representatives of the Ministry of Justice of Georgia, National Drug Observatory, State Care Agency, Special Penitentiary Service, Crime Prevention and Probation Agency, Office of the Resource Officers on Educational Institutions, Juvenile Referral Centre, National Centre for Desease Control (NCDC) and Centre for Mental Health and Prevention of Addiction (CMHPA) as members of the Inter-Agency Coordination Council on Anti-Drug Policy discussed priority areas, new directions and activities to be included in the 2nd National Action Plan. In addition, during the two-day workshop, the results of monitoring of 2022-2023 National Action Plan were also presented by the NDO.

The two day-workshop was opened and facilitated by Salome Ugrekhelidze, Project Officer of the Pompidou Group of the Council of Europe with presenting the Result Based Management (RBM) principles of the Council of Europe and sharing important recommendations concerning the evidence-based drug prevention to be envisaged in the National Action Plan.

In addition to the meeting, the Project National Expert Darejan (Jana) Javakhishvili will peer review the completed action plan for further recommendations and improvements. Ultimately, the National Drug Prevention Action Plan will be adopted at the Inter-Agency Council Meeting in early 2024.
