On 8 December 2023 the Council of Europe Office in Georgia organised a working group meeting with participation of the management of the Legal Aid Service (LAS), representatives of the Parliament of Georgia, Ministry of Justice and the Human Rights Secretariat at the Administration of the Government of Georgia.

The findings and recommendations of the assessment conducted by the Council of Europe expert in relation to free legal aid legislation and the internal regulatory framework of the LAS has been presented and discussed further by the participants. The report and subsequent recommendations were developed throughout the 2023 with the active involvement of the LAS and provided analysis in line with Council of Europe and European standards.

As a result of the discussion, representatives of the Parliament of Georgia and the LAS management endorsed the recommendations of the report and agreed to follow-up with more specific steps in this direction.

This activity was organised within the framework of the Council of Europe Project entitled “Enhanced Access to Legal Aid Services for Marginalised Population” and implemented in Georgia.
