1963 - Aubenas

The Aubenas townAubenas is a French municipality in the Rhône-Alpes region. From time immemorial it has been the “lofty place”, the albenate, where the Montlaur castle has stood sentinel since the XIIth century. The craft of the local people in bringing plentiful irrigation to this land of barren stone is well-matched with its pleasant urban setting and the dynamism of its enterprises.

The town is known for its many tourist sites (the Ardèche gorges or mountain country) and belongs to the “European Cities” league on the same footing as Cesenatico (Italy), Delfzijl (Netherlands), Schwarzenbek (Germany), Sierre (Switzerland) and Zelzate (Belgium) which have cherished their twinning relationship since 1955.
