1980 - Passau

The Passau townPassau is a German town at the Austrian border in the Land of Bavaria and is called “the three river town” because it lies at the confluence of the Inn, the Ilz and the Danube. Since 1952, Passau has organised “European weeks” essentially focused on cultural events which have generated numerous European exchanges. The town attaches great importance to relations with South-east Europe.

Several twinning agreements have been reached with Cagnes-sur-Mer in France and Krems in Austria. There are regular cultural relations with Lanzo/Intelvi and Udine in Italy. Passau has regularly demonstrated its solidarity with disaster-stricken municipalities and regions, while developing its twinning links worldwide: Akita (Japan), Česke Budějovice (Czech Republic), Hackensack (United States), Liuzhou (China), Málaga (Spain) and Vesprém (Hungary).
