1993 - Bocholt

The Bocholt townBocholt lies in the district of Borken in North Rhine-Westphalia.  Originally a trading town, whose prosperity is reflected in many fine villas, it subsequently expanded during the industrialisation of the Ruhr valley, while conducting a flourishing cultural and educational policy which is still supported by several institutions today.

As a European town by tradition, Bocholt lies in EUREGIO, the first Euroregion, on the German-Dutch border, and conducts many exchanges with neighbouring municipalities in the Netherlands (Dinxperlo, Aalten and Winterswijk).  At the same time, it has also developed three successful twinnings with Aurillac (France), Bocholt (Belgium) and Rossendale (United Kingdom).
