The Council of Europe HELP course on Key human rights principles in bioethics was launched in Ukraine

On 23 November 2019, the Ukrainian version of the HELP course 'Key human rights principles in bioethics' was launched for a pilot group of 25 lawyers. The course was launched within the framework of a seminar organised under the Project "Enhancing the implementation of European human rights standards in Ukraine". The seminar was attended by 50 participants, amongst whom lawyers, medical professionals and academics.

The course will be tutored by Iryna Seniuta, national expert in the field. The Council of Europe work in the area of Bioethics was introduced to the participants by Katrin Uerpmann from the Council of Europe Bioethics Unit. This was followed by a series of presentations by acclaimed international experts and by an interesting discussion with the participants.

Following the completion of this pilot edition of the course, in 2020 the course will be rolled out for up to 100 lawyers.

The Council of Europe HELP course Key human rights principles in Biomedicine was published on the HELP online platform in September 2018. Since then, more than 130 legal professionals followed it as a tutored course and more than 60 users of the HELP platform benefitted from the course in the self-learning mode.

The course is composed of 8 modules:

  5. End of Life
  6. Genetic Testing
  7. Biomedical Research
  8. Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues
