Retour Possible impact of wind-farm developments on bats

In 2014 the Bat Study Group Macedonia and Birdlfie Macedonia submitted a complaint on the possible impact of wind farm developments on bats near the village of Bodganci located in the very close vicinity of the Dojran Lake.

This is an important candidate Emerald Network site as well as an Important Bird Area in North Macedonia, home to over 15 bat species. According to the complainant, wind turbines are a driver of bat mortality due to collision and barotrauma. The complainant claims that the conducted EIA did not address adequate avoidance and mitigation measures.

This complaint was dismissed by the Bureau in Spring 2023 due to ongoing lack of updates from the parties.
